Aberdeen has been confirmed as host for two major energy conferences, putting the North Sea on a “strong footing” to boost its share of work on international projects.
The inaugural Energy Export Conference will take place in June next year, presenting £100 billion worth of project opportunities to the UK.
International Trade Minister Lady Fairhead made the announcement during a visit to the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) in Aberdeen. The conference will be the largest of its kind in the UK. It comes as the OGA and trade body Oil and Gas UK seek to double the country’s share of the global service market by 2035.
The aim is for the UK to secure at least 5-10% of the work from the international projects presented.
Lady Fairhead said: “We continue to stand ready to help companies, large and small, the length and breadth of the UK, to export their goods and services, and encourage all interested firms to take a look at our export strategy to see how we can help.”
Meanwhile, Aberdeen also secured the World Energy Cities Partnership’s annual general meeting, which will take place next year.
This comes as the city gears up for Offshore Europe in September 2019.
Oil and Gas UK said it offers a chance to show off what the North Sea is capable of.
Supply chain manager Matt Abraham said: “2019 is shaping up to be an exciting year to showcase the talents of the UK’s offshore oil and gas supply chain to the world.
“The inaugural Energy Export conference, Offshore Europe and the World Energy Cities AGM provide a steady drumbeat of opportunities to demonstrate our world-leading skills and capabilities in the energy sector.
“This puts us on a strong footing to realise our shared ambition of delivering Vision 2035 – which includes the drive to double the UK’s global share of the oil and gas service sector market by 2035.
