The bank made several other changes to its board, too.

The board chair and risk committee chair of Regions Bank’s board of directors retired last month.

Board Chair Charles McCrary and Risk Committee Chair Johnny Johns stepped down from their roles with the board of directors of Regions Financial Corp. (NYSE: RF), according to a release. Regions CEO John Turner was appointed chair of the board, Ruth Ann Marshall, former president of the Americas for MasterCard International Inc., was named lead independent director and Jim Prokopanko, former president and CEO of The Mosaic Co., was named chair of the risk committee.

The bank added a new director in February and a new Birmingham market executive to start off the new year.

McCrary, former president, CEO and chair of Alabama Power Co., was Regions’ longest-tenured director, having joined its board 23 years ago. He supported the decision to combine the roles of chair and CEO.

“With almost six years of board service, he will be a critical link between the board’s oversight and the day-to-day functions of the company,” McCrary said of Turner. “This continuity will be key as the board and management team work together to execute Regions’ goals and strategies.”

Johns is a former executive chair, director and CEO of Protective Life Corp.

Changes to the board became official April 17 at an annual meeting of Regions shareholders, when 13 directors were elected.

In other board of directors news in Birmingham, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United recently added local executive Hafiz Chandiwala and Atlanta-based executive Crawford Jones to its board of directors.
